David Sweeny, Smell o Vision, Art and Music

I love David Sweeny's work, he is sort of a cross between a designer an artist an engineer, I guess we can call it modern art (with real value). He has many creations from the ingenious smelly speakers to the smart camera; a device that automatically decodes information stored in an icon (a url), and uses your mobile phone to assess the Internet and verbally inform you about what it is.

David Sweeny has created the sexiest personal olfaction, smell o vision device i have ever seen. The device called The Quale or The Quale Diffuser pictured below, closely resembles an audio speaker. The very modern design is matched by the very modern technology, . This device is "an alternative to receiving all our daily information through our eyes and ears, instead routing some of it down an olfactory channel."

So far the device has the ability to diffuse 16 individually and intentionally crafted scents. Also on the list of technology is wireless capability allowing the devices settings to be manipulated so we can enjoy the ambiance without tinkering around too much.

Sweeny who has worked with Panasonic, DIY Kyoto and Nokia among others has also been nominated for the Index Award in 2009. His device the Quale diffuser in my opinion is behind the competition. Now that is in context of its adaptability in the personal smell o vision arena. The Quale itself is an ingenious piece of art and technology, oh yeah by the way you can network two or more of these devices to create a smellscape! The device could be used as a commercial scent diffuser for scent marketing purpose's or perhaps be integrated into a home as a functioning piece of art from the future.

"The device creates a constantly adapting smellscape.
Some elements of the scent convey information while others complement these by evoking awareness beyond the task in hand."

The video below shows the devices effect on a fly, it is clear the device works quite well and has summons the fly's undivided attention, i think the pheromones have induced pure love for both of us.
